Mount Rushmore is located in the Black Hills of South Dakota. The granite rockface is one of the most recognizable monuments in the United States. Originally, Presidents Washington, Jefferson, Roosevelt and Lincoln were to be depicted from head to waist but lack of funding forced construction to halt in 1941.
