State of Alabama Ornament

Alabama is nicknamed the Yellowhammer state after the state bird, the Northern Flicker. As the woodpecker flies, its bright yellow tail and underwings are visible. Yellowhammer is a term that originated during the American Civil War to describe Confederate soldiers from Alabama. The U.S. Space and Rocket Center is a top attraction.
